Too many young people in America’s neighborhoods are looking around and seeing empty spaces—no places to shine, no programs that speak to who they are or who they want to be, and if that isn’t it an adult is telling them to stop having fun or socializing. When life gets tough, and options get smaller, it’s easy to feel stuck and very easy to make bad choices, because the only opportunity they see is that with the wrong crowd. That’s why at Cincy Youth Productions (cYp), we’re not just filling time—we’re lighting the way.
So-called problem teens don’t need another lecture or easy fix. They need real chances to express themselves, to lead, to connect with people who see their potential and believe in their future. But here’s the hard truth—right now, in Cincinnati and beyond, there just aren’t enough positive places for these young voices to rise. That silence? It’s dangerous.
Studies tell us: when youth don’t have safe, inspiring outlets, their energy can be wasted or worse, turned toward things that can or will hold them back. We see it every day—teens craving purpose but running out of pathways. At cYp, we’re building those paths with after-school tutoring, creative workshops, leadership training, and spaces where every young person can say, “This is me. I feel this! This is possible.”
But we’re just one part of a bigger puzzle. More support, more programs, more community attention and participation are needed—these aren’t luxuries; they’re lifelines. Together, we can rewrite the story for these kids—offering not just hope, but real, lasting opportunity.
If you believe every young person deserves a place to grow, to be heard, and to lead—then cYp wants to hear from you. Our Youth Conclaves and the preparation for them, give the youth a voice for adults to hear. Leadership skills to show them how to express themselves in a way that allows adults to hear them and gives them life long communication skills that they can take into the workplace.
